  • Change Your Delivery Time

  • What is Munchery?

    Munchery is an online marketplace for consumers to purchase meals directly from local, professional chefs.

    Weeknight dinner can be a boring and often dreaded experience. You’re too busy to cook, donʼt have time to shop, and you’re frankly out of ideas about what to make. Inevitably, you end up grabbing whatever is readily available (and often succumb to unhealthy choices), or find yourself eating the same thing at the same place again and again.

    Munchery allows you to order dinner, cooked daily, by our network of chefs. They use fresh ingredients for your meals (often organic or locally sustainable whenever possible). Each day, multiple chefs create delicious entrees and complement them with thoughtful sides. Meals are delivered directly to your home or office that night. You save time and get an incredible meal that blows away traditional forms of takeout.

  • How does Munchery work?

    1. Browse menus that our chefs post for each day. There's a different menu for each day of the week.
    2. Add items to your bag and checkout when you're ready.
    3. You can purchase items across different days and chefs, all in the same order. You can order for that night, the next day, or even a few days out of the week. Meals are always made fresh daily.
    4. Payment is done online via credit card. You can also add a tip for our driver.
    5. For delivery, choose a delivery window and our driver will send you a SMS shortly before they arrive. There is a small delivery charge depending on your location.
  • When & Where does Munchery deliver?

    Each region we service has a range of delivery windows that allow you to order a meal and have it in time for dinner that same night. No minimum orders are required and our drivers will text or call you a few minutes before they arrive. Most of our drivers can also be tracked on your Account page by clicking on “Track Today’s Delivery”. This way you can determine where your meals are and when your dinner will be served!

    Our drivers do their best to meet your desired delivery time. However, unpredictable traffic conditions and demand spikes may occasionally occur. You’ll be contacted if unforeseen circumstances will affect your delivery time.

    If you already placed an order and want to make another order for that day, your orders will be bundled and delivered once. The delivery charge will not be applied on the second order since it's still one delivery.

  • Who are the Munchery chefs?

    Munchery’s team of chefs are local, professional chefs who come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many have experience at well-regarded restaurants, while others have run their own catering businesses or worked as private chefs. Each of our chefs has passed a Munchery tasting test, and we pride ourselves on selecting quality and creative individuals to feed our customers. Our chefs also comply with all professional food standards, are fully licensed, and backed with liability insurance. In addition, all of our meals are prepared in certified commercial kitchens.

    We feel very confident about the chefs in our network. We personally meet and vet each one to ensure that they provide exceptional food and great service. Our goal is for you to always be 100% satisfied. If for any reason you're not happy with your meal, definitely .

Getting Started

  • Creating an Account

    To start, click on Sign Up in the upper right-hand corner of the Munchery page. You can sign up using Facebook or your email

    When signing up using Facebook, enter your login information as if you were logging in to the Facebook website

    When signing up with email, enter the information requested (first name, last name, ZIP code, email, and a password that is at least 8 characters long).

  • Sign Up for the Daily Menu Email

    Since our menus change daily, get fresh dinner options in your inbox each day

    Do you have an account already? Then you're automatically signed up for our Daily Menu email. You can adjust any email preferences, go to your Account page and select Email Preferences. You can adjust which days you would like the Daily Menu Email.

    Don't have an account? You can still sign up for our Daily Menu email without having to create an account. On the Munchery homepage, below the large photo at the top, you can enter your email address and ZIP code. This will add you to our mailing list for Daily Menu emails.

  • Browsing the Daily Menu

    Click on Daily Menu at the top of your screen and you'll be taken to our menu. Scroll down to see what the chefs are making for you today or an upcoming date.

    Across the menu page underneath the “Order Now, Enjoy Tonight” box, you can select choices to view Entrees, Sides, Desserts, and Drinks. Or you can simply scroll down the page to view all menu choices.

    Filtering

    To filter options, click on the icon at the far right of the menu bar, next to the car icon. This will give options to filter based on your dietary preferences including Dairy Free, Low Carb, Nut Free, Organic and more.

    Detailed Information about a Menu Item

    To view a complete description of the dish, click on the item image. This page will give you more information about the dish including a list of ingredients, prep info for reheating (these instructions are also packaged with your order for delivery), and recent reviews for the dish. To return to the menu page, click on “Back to Menu” in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

    Notice the meal labels below each item. We have several such as Organic, Wheat-free, Nut-free, Dairy-free, Vegan, Vegetarian, and Low Carb. These labels will help guide you in choosing what meals fit your preferences and needs.

    Ordering

    Once you've made the decision of what you're going to order, click on the + (+Add) next to your desired choice. This will place the item in your shopping bag, ready for checkout.

    Want to order on another day? Click on "Today’s Menu" on the left side of the menu page. Choose your desired delivery date in the drop down menu and you'll be taken to the menu for what the chefs are preparing on that day. Proceed through checkout and you'll receive your meals when you want them.

    Save yourself some time. There's no need to place several separate orders if you want to get dinner for a few different days. You can compile and place an order for several days in a week all at once. Just select items from the Daily Menu page of each day you would like to receive your meals, add the items to your shopping bag, and proceed through checkout when you're ready. We'll handle the deliveries and you'll get your meals on your desired days.

Placing Orders

  • How do I order?

    The most popular way to order is online from our daily menu, currently available every weekday. You can order that day and get dinner delivered the same night at a specified time of your choosing! All payment is done securely online.

    We also send out emails alerting you to the daily changing menu, as well as daily push notifications on our iPhone app. For many chefs, you can also order meals up to a week in advance and take advantage of our Early Bird Discount program.

  • Cancelling an order

    We know life is unpredictable, so we make it very flexible to cancel your order. Go to Your Orders page to cancel an item or the entire order. You can cancel as late as 10AM on the day of your delivery with no penalty. Refunds can take up to 3 days before they are reflected on your credit card. If you miss the deadline, you can contact us and we will do our best to help you.

  • Change Your Delivery Time

  • Adding or removing from an order

    Cancel an Individual Item

    • Go to your Account page and click on the Your Orders button. All upcoming deliveries are broken down by day on this page.
    • To the right of the order you'd like to cancel, underneath Order Details, click on the Change This Order button.
    • On the right side of the page underneath Cancel Individual Items, change the item quantity to 0 for each meal you would like to cancel.
    • Our system will issue a refund to your card for these items and delivery fees. Refunds can take up to 3 days

    Add an Item to your Order

    • Want to add a different item instead? Just place a new order for the additional items and be sure to choose the same delivery window - our system will automatically bundle all of your orders for a particular delivery day and you will not be charged a second delivery fee.
  • Can I add more meals to a placed order?

    Place a new order with the additional meals you’d like for that day and your orders will be bundled together into one delivery. You will not be charged twice for delivery.

  • Ordering for multiple days

    Click on “Today’s Menu” on the left side of the menu page. Choose your desired delivery date in the drop down menu and you'll be taken to the menu for what the chefs are preparing on that day. Proceed through checkout and you'll receive your meals when you want them.

  • Can I make special requests to my meal?

    You can make a special request by doing so the day before your delivery. When you checkout, click on the Special Preparation link to add a note to the chef with your request. Our chefs will do their best to accommodate any special dietary preference you may have. We will notify you whether your request can be accommodated or not depending on ingredients, preparation and time.

About the Food

  • What are the meals like?

    Our chefs use the freshest, seasonal ingredients in their meals. Often, they will source their ingredients from local, sustainable farms and use organic products whenever possible. You can easily know what is going into your meal by going to the meal description and clicking on the various ingredients and sources.

    Unlike a traditional restaurant with a fixed menu, our chefs' menus are constantly changing, which gives you great variety and seasonality. More selection means that you’ll never get bored with our offerings.

    The type of food varies greatly by the chefs and their available menus. Some chefs focus on specific cuisines, such as California, Italian, or Thai. While others may only produce vegetarian meals. A typical meal consists of multiple items including an entrée and one or more side dishes. Each meal contains one adult portion (approximately 12-16 oz).

  • What are the portions like?

  • What if I have a food allergy?

    If you have a sensitive food allergy, we recommend that you closely read the menu description as well as ingredient list before ordering.

    If you would like to request the chef make a special preparation for you, make this request as part of the checkout process. You will receive an email whether the chef notifiying you whether your request can be accomodated, which depends on the type of request it is as well as preparation constraints.

  • Do you offer Vegetarian, Vegan, and Wheat-Free options?

    Meals are tagged with an orange label marking them as vegan, vegetarian, wheat-free, organic, nut-free, dairy-free, etc. Look for these tags to determine ingredients and allergy restrictions. Please note that meals are prepared in a kitchen whose environment contains nuts, wheat, dairy, etc. Though best practices are used when preparing the meal, inadvertent cross-contamination may occur.

  • Do you provide a list of ingredients and nutritional info behind each meal?

    Ingredients are listed as part of the information for each menu item. On our menu, click on an item, and click the Ingredients tab (hint: you can also press 3 to jump to the tab).

    Meals are labeled as organic, low-carb and wheat-free to help you order according to your preferences.

    We currently do not offer calorie counts on the meals. We are working hard to make full nutritional information available for all our meals.

  • When does Munchery deliver?

  • How much does delivery cost?

    We charge a flat $2.95 delivery fee whether you’re located in San Francisco, Marin, the East Bay or the Peninsula.

  • Do I need to be home?

    The Cooler Drop-Off Service is a free program that allows Munchery to drop-off your meals in a safe and secure manner, even when you're not at home. Instead of receiving a delivery in person, you can place a cooler outside your home for us to drop-off your delivery. We’ll place your meals inside the cooler. If you purchase a cooler from us, we'll also include a cool pack to keep the meal within food temperature safety guidelines.

    Munchery meals are always prepared fresh. They also have been promptly cooled after preparation to ensure that you receive an excellent meal requiring just a quick re-heat before you eat. Our Cooler Drop-off Service extends that freshness in a safe and convenient way. Please note: You’re responsible for providing a safe and secure cooler for the drop off. Once a meal has been dropped off, you will receive a text or phone call notifying you of the delivery.

    Requirements for Cooler Drop-off Service

    • You must provide a cooler measuring at least 12"(w) x 12"(l) x 10"(h), and be in good condition with a tight seal (see example). If you order 4+ meals, we suggest a larger cooler. Place this cooler in a safe, secure, and shaded location.
    • We strongly recommend placing 1-2 ice or cool packs in the cooler as well. A well-sealed cooler can maintain a safe temperature for over a day.
    • Print this Munchery Cooler label and attach it to the outside of your cooler.
    • If you do not have a cooler, you can add a Munchery-provided cooler to your bag for a one-time charge and re-use in the future. There are no returns or refunds for coolers.
    • It's your responsibility to ensure a safe and secure location for your cooler.
  • How do I handle gratuity for the delivery?

    Gratuity is completely optional. In fact, our delivery drivers do not expect a gratuity. However, if you would like to extend a tip, you can do so with either cash upon delivery, or specify an amount during the checkout process. In fact, Munchery takes it a step further by only awarding credit card tips to drivers in a lump sum. The individual gratuity amounts are never disclosed before or after your delivery. This ensures a consistent level of superb service for all our valued customers.

  • Does the chef deliver my food?

    Our chefs do not handle delivery of your food. Instead, we have a dedicated delivery team to handle all of the logistics of getting you your food. They'll even send you a SMS before they arrive. You can also order across multiple chefs and have the convenience of a single delivery.

  • Can I do pickup instead of delivery?

    Yes, we offer convenient pickup at our headquarters location in the San Francisco Mission Disrict. Picking up your order waives the delivery charge of your order. You can also order and pickup as late as 7PM. To pickup your order, just select the Pickup option when you checkout and choose Munchery (we're adding more locations soon). Pickup instructions will be included in your order confirmation email.

  • How do I have food delivered to my friend?

    If you want to send food to a friend. Follow these simple steps:

    • You need to be logged in with your account or sign up first
    • Add items in your bag and checkout as normal
    • On the checkout page, provide your friend's name and address under the Delivery Info
    • Under the Credit Card section, provide your own payment information. We just need to know your billing ZIP.
    • Choose your delivery time and place the order

    You can always place multiple orders for different deliveries for the same night all under your account.

  • Can I deliver to places other than a home?

    Do you want to send Munchery to a friend’s home or to your office? Not a problem. Simply put the desired location of delivery into the address field. Please enter who the meals are being delivered to under delivery instructions. Just remember to change the address back before your next order.

Preparing Your Meals

  • How do I prepare my meals?

    Meals arrive chilled with specific and simple heating instructions. All you need is a microwave or oven to reheat and enjoy your meal in minutes!

  • Are containers microwave and/or oven safe?

    Our entree tray is both microwave and oven safe, as it is made from renewable bamboo and sugarcane fiber (it's also 100% compostable and biodegradable). Remove the plastic lid (made from recycled plastic bottles) before reheating. Some of our larger offerings are packaged in recycled paperboard containers which are microwave safe and are recyclable.

  • How long does prep take?

    Reheating typically takes no more than 5 minutes, depending on the individual meal and your choice of microwave or oven heating. Cooking times may vary with your particular kitchen appliances. Heat the meals until at your desired temperature.

  • How long can I keep a Munchery meal in the refrigerator?

    Meals typically last about 1-3 days as long as they are kept in the refrigerator. Stews and braises can last up to 3 days while leafy salads are best enjoyed within a day.

  • Recyle & composting guidelines

    Munchery eco-friendly puts sustainable packaging at its core.

    Our entree trays are tree-free, made from renewable bamboo and sugarcane fiber, and are 100% compostable and biodegradable! Entree lids are made from recycled plastic bottles. The sleeves that protect your entree trays are made of 100% recycled paperboard.

Promo Codes

  • Do I have to use an entire promo credit at once?

    No, you do not need to use all of the code's value in a single order. Any remaining balance will be left as credit on your Munchery account, to be used towards any future order. Unlike many other websites your Munchery credits never expire!

  • Can I combine two promo codes?

    Unfortunately, our deal site promotions are for new customers only (eg., first-time orders) and cannot be combined with other promo codes. Typically, only one deal can be purchased per customer. We work closely with deal sites like Groupon or Living Social to ensure they provide the terms of the deal in a clear manner on their site (we won't tolerate fine print either). If you accidentally purchased more than one deal, please contact the deal site for a refund or perhaps give the deal code as a gift to someone else. If you're still having issues, email us at and provide us your deal code. Deal requests like these are handled on a case-by-case basis.

  • Redeeming daily deals like Groupon and LivingSocial?

    During the checkout process, there is a link "Have a promotional or deal code?" (it's right after you're asked for your delivery address information). Just paste your promotion code and continue to payment. Your bag will reflect that your promotion has been successfully applied. Gift Cards

  • Can I purchase a gift card for someone?

    Absolutely, go to our Gift Cards page. Gift cards are perfect for new parents, or just about any special occasion. The gift card is sent in a digital format via email. A link to redeem it is included in the email. You can also provide the gift card code during checkout.

  • Do gift cards expire?

    Our gift cards never expire. After making an order with a gift card, any remaining balance is applied to the account as credit.

  • How do I redeem my gift card?

    In order to redeem your gift card, you will first need to have an account on Munchery. If you have an account, go to the Redeem Gift Card page to apply the gift card as credit on your account.

  • How do I unsubscribe from the Daily Menu Email?

    There are two ways to unsubscribe.

    1. At the bottom of our daily menu email, click on the unsubscribe button to no longer receive the daily menu email.
    2. Go to your Account page and select Email Preferences. You can opt out of other types of emails such as general announcements.

    You can also set specific days to receive the Daily Menu Email. Even though you don't receive this email, you will still maintain your Munchery account.

  • Is this site secure for my credit card?

    We take security seriously. Munchery is a Level I PCI Service Provider, backed by a top-tier credit card vendor, Braintree (used by leading companies such as Airbnb and LivingSocial). Your credit card number is never stored on any of our servers.

    Munchery is entirely a SSL-protected site. All transactions are processed using secure encryption -- the same level of encryption used by leading banks.

    Finally, our site security is also audited by SecurityMetrics, a third-party global auditor of PCI-DSS compliance.
