  1. Background

Chef Kimura’s first job was at a Japanese restaurant in Los Altos, California. It was there that he first caught the hospitality bug and went on to work at a variety of notable SF Bay Area restaurants, including Orson with Chef Elizabeth Flanker and Michael Mina at his namesake restaurant. He went on to run the kitchen at Bashan in Glendale and spent a lot of time traveling, learning the nuances of popular ethnic foods in the most authentic way.

He enjoys foods that are well-balanced with a significant depth of flavor and you’ll see that with the dishes he creates each week for Munchery. On his days off, you’ll find him at a simple Izakaya, snacking, drinking, and laughing with friends.

This dish is so incredibly good, I ordered it twice more this week. I hope all Munchery dishes are this good. Generous portion size and tons of delicious ingredients, all nicely packaged. Five stars.

it was unappealing and tasted like leftover Panda Express

Very refreshing and light. Good amount overall. Soba noodles are a bit overcooked, but maybe it is difficult to keep them firm in salad. Pickled cucumbers give great accent to the salad.

Really delicious and oh-so-soothing. And I consider myself quite a connoisseur of miso soup. I deducted a star because I was robbed of carrots in my soup. What is with that? The photo clearly shows carrots.

Delicious salad with the perfect balance of sweet and savory. The flavors in each bit were beautifully enhanced by the salad dressing.

YUK! Way too salty and the mushrooms were dehydrated and overwhelmed the flavor of the soup with their nasty dehydrated mushroom flavor and gross rubbery texture.

Very tasty dish & I would definitely get it again. Compliments to the chef.

Nice taste. Wonder if it would be better with a soy based sauce.

I'm a meat eater but the photo looks so enticing! Flavor was great and the meal was very satisfying. I was skeptical but I was quite full and happy

Ham is an odd addition to the experience - salmon or chicken would be way better - and dip is salty but didn't have much flavor.

Not sure what this meal is supposed to taste like so hence the two stars instead of one. The noodles were limp and mushy and the broth was only salty with a fishy undertaste. Won't order this again.

pretty tasty. nice portion and filling, but light. for me, i prefer a little more spice/garlic - so i just added a bunch of sriracha and chili garlic sauce. would definitely recommend.

Very mediocre. Big portion though. Slaw was the best part but I don't recommend using all the dressing. Added more soy sauce and sriracha to the chicken and rice which helped greatly!

Add a side of teriyaki sauce. Not enough on the chicken.

This was a very original dish, perfect for lunch or dinner. The serving size was good and went perfect with some rice I heated up.

Not as tasty in past. The mushrooms had a chemically taste, so I threw them away.
