This humble Asian tradition is known by many names—”congee” in English, “zhou” in Mandarin, “jook” in Cantonese—but we like to simply call it “delicious”. A creamy rice porridge gets a salty kick from a seasoned fish sauce, and is garnished with cilantro, rau ram (Vietnamese coriander), scallions, and shallots. The dish is tasty except for all that black pepper. I actually wash it off the chicken before I add the chicken to my porridge. The other additives enhance the dish nicely.

This was absolutely amazing... I can't even begin to express my deep love for this. This is exactly the way my grandma would make it. Now I wish this was available at least once a week on Munchery!

Very flavorful, but I find it hard to believe it only has 290 calories. I made two meals out of it and when the second half was in the fridge there was a lot of cooled fat ( which I love, but wonder about the calories as I count them)

This has the potential to be a great dish. I thought the porridge was too watery, but the flavors were excellent. I had to add some of my own white rice to give it a thicker consistency.

Perhaps it's meant to be this way, but we found it very bland. Watery rice - no flavor even when all ingredients mixed in. Our first miss in almost 7 years of ordering.

This soup (congee, jook) was pretty good, but not great. Too much black pepper and too few green onions, tho the other herbs were fine. It needed peanuts as another garnish so I added my own.
