About the Winemaker...
English transplant “Doc” Andrew Hedley’s passion for Riesling probably started on childhood trips with his father to Austria and the great vineyards of the Mosel. As he puts it, Riesling “gets under your skin and never goes away." That combined with his chemistry degree show through his winemaking.
Called “New Zealand’s Master of Riesling” (Jamie Goode, Wine Anorak), Hedley’s eclectic style: mixing machine harvesting with hand picking, whole clusters and de-stemmed fruit, and relying mostly on wild ferments rather than commercial yeast strains results in wines that are hard to pigeonhole.
