This dish was born when Portuguese sailors arrived in the shrimp-rich waters of Mozambique in the late 15th century. Local shrimp and coconut milk, rice from the Far East, Middle Eastern spices, and some spicy (and not so spicy) peppers and tomatoes brought by the Portuguese from the New World—disparate elements that combine together wonderfully. Our version has green beans added for extra veggie goodness plus a garnish of cilantro, lemon, and some house-made peri-peri sauce for more heat.
