Vietnamese Sticky Ribs

Years ago, my wife invited some friends, Jennie and Troung, over for dinner. Both were recent immigrants from Vietnam and were unsure of what to bring. I told them not to worry about bringing anything, we would have it covered. When they arrived, they were holding a huge plate, wrapped in foil. I asked what it was, in unison they shouted "sticky ribs!" I still remember how those ribs tasted, sweet, spicy, fragrant (and yes, sticky). The sticky ribs completely overshadowed everything that I had made for the occasion. Jennie and Troung eventually moved away, taking their sticky ribs recipe with them. I've been trying to recreate this recipe for years and I think that I've finally got it. Hopefully you enjoy them as much as I did.
